Honoring the history and legacy of Latino and Hispanic contributions to Notre Dame.

Since the mid-1800s, students, faculty, and staff of Latino and Hispanic descent have made significant contributions to Notre Dame, enriching the educational landscape and fostering a more inclusive and diverse learning and research environment. A campus coalition has come together to celebrate a history and legacy of Latino contributions that date to our earliest days. This effort is part of continuing work to foster a powerful sense of community and belonging at our University, where the accomplishments and experiences of Latinos are recognized and valued.

Throughout the 2024-25 academic year, the Somos ND (the Spanish translation of We Are ND) celebration will encompass a series of activities that promote individual engagement and bring the campus community together. From recognizing outstanding achievements, to raising the visibility of students, faculty, staff, and alumni, to creating awareness of important cultural issues, we envision the Somos ND celebration as a renewal and strengthening of our inclusion and recognition of Latinos and Hispanics at our University. By paying tribute to the past, we aspire to create a lasting impact that transcends the yearlong festivities.
